Childrens Dentistry
We are a family oriented dental practice and welcome young children. Our friendly and caring dental team enjoy seeing children and we always do everything we can to help them relax during visits. Oral hygiene is important in the early years, to prevent tooth decay and gum disease, and getting young children into a regular routine of professional dental care and great oral hygiene at home can really pay dividends later on. You will also find that we have lots of useful advice on how to look after their teeth at home and as they get older we can work with them to teach them the very best way to brush and floss. With the proper dental care, we hope to see your child grow up with healthy teeth and gums so they can enjoy all the benefits of having a healthy smile for life.
What to expect at your child’s check-up
Our dentist will look at the following:
- Which teeth have erupted (come through the gum).
- The development of their jaw.
- Their soft tissues (tongue, cheeks, lips and throat).
- Any signs of cavities or lesions in their teeth.
- As your child gets older we will assess the how their teeth bite together to check if orthodontics may be required later on.
Advice on Preventative Care
- Healthy diet.
- Brushing techniques.
- Fluoride treatments if necessary.
- Fissure sealants if there’s a high risk of cavities developing.
How to take care of your child’s teeth
Children should start to visit our dental practice as young as possible, so bring them along with you to your check-ups. They may be too young for an examination but the visits help to familiarise them with the surroundings, the smells and sounds, and most importantly they will meet our dentist and all our dental team and can begin to get to know us. As they get older we thoroughly recommend regular dental checkups.
Regular dental check-ups help our dentist to prevent and treat decay before it causes cavities and toothache. These examinations will be informal to start, a quick look using a dental mirror, counting their teeth and looking for signs of decay. As your child’s confidence grows our dentist will carry out a more thorough examination
Medicare Child Dental Benefit Scheme
